Nigerian Senate on Wednesday passed the 2021 supplementary budget of nine hundred & eighty two point seven billion naira (=N=982.7b).

Passage of the supplementary appropriations bill was sequel to the consideration of the report of Senate committee on Appropriations as presented by it’s chairman, Senator Jubrin Barau.

The supplementary budget became necessary following the need to fund the COVID-19 vaccine programme; other health related expenditures for treatment of additional 50,000 patients under the Nigeria Comprehensive AIDS Programme in states; and procurement of additional equipment captured in this year’s capital expenditure on Defence and Security to tackle prevalent security challenges across the country.

President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan thereafter urged his colleagues to be thorough in their oversight duties with regards to the supplementary budget.

He also called for prudence in the management of the fund & administration of the health related needs covered by the budget.

Senator Lawan says he is optimistic that the supplementary budget will facilitate government’s quest to quench every form of insecurity bedevilling the country in the shortest possible time.
