Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, says his administration will sustain collaboration with security agencies to tackle banditry and facilitate the return of internally displaced persons to their ancestral communities.
Aliyu stated this in Sokoto while declaring open the eighth regular meeting of the State Executive Council.
The governor said the state government had adopted a more robust approach to the fight against banditry, saying that the strategy was beginning to yield positive results.
“We are recording tremendous improvement in our fight against banditry in the state, and we will not relent until we make the state safer,” Aliyu stated.

He explained that collaboration with conventional security agencies had resulted in increased engagements with bandits, as well as the recovery of rustled livestock in some parts of the state.
The governor cited recent operations in Rabah, Tureta and Kebbe Local Government Areas, where he said security agencies had engaged bandits, rescued people from captivity and recovered thousands of rustled livestock.
Aliyu also noted that the provision of armoured vehicles and other operational equipment to security agencies would further strengthen efforts to protect rural communities and restore normalcy to areas affected by banditry.
In a statement by the Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa, the governor assured residents that his administration would continue to provide necessary support to security agencies to protect lives and property.
He appealed to residents to support the government and security agencies in their efforts to restore lasting peace across the state.
The governor also listed healthcare, education, road infrastructure, water supply, religious affairs and empowerment programmes among areas where the administration had recorded progress in the last three and a half years.
“We are committed to achieving our dream of a New Sokoto that generations yet unborn will be proud of,” Aliyu emphasised.
Governor Aliyu called for continued support and prayers from residents towards the realisation of the administration’s development objectives.
