A philanthropist in Sokoto State has donated food items, clothing and five vehicles valued at about N400 million to orphans, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable residents in the state.
The donation comprised 12,350 bags of rice, 12,000 wrappers and five new vehicles, distributed among beneficiaries from 87 districts across the state’s 23 Local Government Areas.
The items were distributed at the headquarters of the Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Agency.
Speaking during the distribution, the donor, Alhaji Murtala Abdulkadir Dan’iya, said the intervention was intended to provide relief to vulnerable families affected by prevailing economic difficulties.
He said the donation was part of his efforts to support people facing hardship, particularly orphans, IDPs and other vulnerable groups.
Dan’iya said two of the vehicles were donated to the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, while three were given to the Zakkat and Endowment Agency to support their operations.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for measures aimed at addressing the challenges facing residents.
Dan’iya also acknowledged the contributions of former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and his mentor, Alhaji Umarun Kwabo, Jarman Sokoto.
The Chairman of the Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Agency, Malam Lawal Maidoki, commended the initiative and urged individuals and organisations with the means to support vulnerable members of society.
Maidoki said such interventions could help ease the difficulties faced by disadvantaged households, particularly during periods of economic hardship.
He also called for continued support for vulnerable Nigerians through lawful and sustainable charitable interventions.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the assistance and prayed for the wellbeing of the donor.
