The Kebbe Local Government Council of Sokoto State has commenced the distribution of free fertiliser to farmers, as part of the state government’s 2026 wet-season agricultural support programme.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Kebbe, the Coordinator of the fertiliser distribution exercise, Col. Garba Moyi (Rtd), said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that genuine farmers had timely access to quality farm inputs to boost food production during the current farming season.
Moyi said the programme was part of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to supporting farmers through the provision of free fertiliser, improved seeds and other agricultural inputs across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
According to him, Kebbe Local Government Area would receive six trucks of fertiliser, with each truck containing 600 bags, for distribution across all wards and polling units in the area.
He added that the intervention was also part of the state government’s efforts to complement the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening food security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Moyi said the state government had put measures in place to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution process, warning that any attempt to divert the fertiliser would not be tolerated.
He urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the commodity to increase agricultural productivity, achieve bumper harvests and improve their livelihoods.
“Governor Ahmed Aliyu, in his wisdom, earmarked a huge amount of money for the procurement of this fertiliser and other farm inputs to distribute to you free of charge, without collecting a dime.
“Use it to support your farming activities, especially during this wet season, to achieve bumper harvests and promote the socio-economic growth of the agricultural sector in the state,” Moyi said.
He commended the governor’s efforts towards ensuring that genuine farmers had timely access to quality fertiliser through a transparent, accountable and well-coordinated distribution system.
“It is a programme designed not only to distribute fertiliser but also to strengthen livelihoods, boost agricultural output, reduce the cost of food production and improve the economic well-being of every household in Sokoto State,” he said.
The coordinator also called on the people of the area to continue to support the administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Aliyu, saying that sustained support for government policies and programmes would help promote development and deliver more dividends of democracy.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Council, Musa Garba Kebbe, commended Governor Aliyu for sustaining agricultural interventions to support farmers and strengthen food security.
Musa said the various interventions by the state government had provided significant support to farmers and contributed to efforts to ensure food sufficiency in Sokoto State and the country at large.
He explained that every polling unit will receive 15 bags of NPK, 5 bags of urea, and other agricultural inputs.
The chairman assured that the council would closely monitor the distribution exercise to ensure that only genuine farmers benefited, while urging beneficiaries to use the fertiliser strictly for farming to achieve improved yields during the 2026 wet season.
Also speaking, the District Head of Ngushi, Alhaji Idris Abubakar, commended Gov. Aliyu for introducing and sustaining farmer-friendly agricultural programmes aimed at improving crop yields and enhancing food production.
Abubakar assured the government of the continued support of traditional institutions for its policies and programmes aimed at promoting sustainable development in Kebbe Local Government Area and Sokoto State.
