Nigerian secondary and tertiary students participating in the Geneith Health Competition are set to benefit from a ₦1 billion empowerment package aimed at promoting malaria prevention, health awareness and community advocacy.

The competition is organised by CEOAFRICA and sponsored by Geneith Pharmaceuticals Limited, with Coatal Forte Softgel as power partner. It offers cash prizes, scholarships, educational support and institutional participation to students involved in malaria awareness activities.

The initiative has also received the backing of healthcare and academic institutions, including the Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (APPMED), while Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has formally joined the programme.

President of APPMED, Comrade Rev. Kubiat Akpan, said the association would mobilise its members nationwide to support participating students and strengthen malaria prevention messages at the grassroots.

“As medicine dealers on the frontlines of healthcare delivery across every ward and local government in Nigeria, we see the devastating impact of malaria on families every single day,” Akpan said.

He said APPMED members would help ensure that information on malaria prevention, proper diagnosis and effective treatment reached households across the country.

At YABATECH, the Deputy Registrar, S. S. Akadiri, said the institution would sensitise its students about the competition, describing it as an opportunity to promote academic development, public health advocacy and youth empowerment.

“In today’s economic climate, the financial rewards attached to this competition are transformative for young scholars,” Akadiri said.

Akadiri added that the rewards could assist students with educational expenses, research, accommodation and resources for health advocacy projects.

The competition, endorsed by the Department of Public Health of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, targets students in secondary and tertiary institutions nationwide, giving them an opportunity to serve as ambassadors for malaria awareness.

The Initiator and Chief Executive Officer of CEOAFRICA, Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, said the competition was designed to place young Nigerians at the centre of grassroots efforts to combat malaria.

“Every single life lost to malaria is a stolen future, a lost leader, and a blow to our nation’s progress,” Ilobanafor said.

He urged field teams involved in the programme to intensify mobilisation across schools and campuses before the registration deadline.

The Chairman of Geneith Pharmaceuticals Limited and sponsor of the competition, Chief Emmanuel Umenwa, also called on parents, school administrators and other stakeholders to encourage eligible students to participate.

“This is not just a student contest; it is a national rescue mission,” Umenwa said, urging institutions that had yet to register to join the campaign.

According to the organisers, prizes will be awarded based on merit through a transparent evaluation process, with top performers in the secondary and tertiary categories receiving cash prizes, scholarships and gift items.

Registration for eligible students closes on October 30, 2026, while the organisers said full guidelines and registration details are available through the Geneith Health Competition portal.
