UNDP Reaffirms Partnership with Anambra Digital Economy

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has reaffirmed its partnership with Anambra State to support digital transformation, innovation and economic opportunities for young people.

UNDP Nigeria Resident Representative, Ms. Elsie Attafuah, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to Governor Charles Soludo at the Government House in Awka, Anambra State.

During the visit, the UNDP delegation toured the permanent site of the Solution Innovation District (SID), a flagship project of the Soludo administration aimed at promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and digital skills development across the state.

The delegation was received by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Innovation and Business Incubation who is also the Chief Executive Officer of SID, Ms. Chinwe Okoli, who showcased ongoing infrastructure development and outlined the state’s vision of building a globally competitive innovation ecosystem.

Okoli said the project reflects the Soludo administration’s commitment to transforming Anambra into a technology-driven economy through sustained investments in digital infrastructure, talent development and strategic partnerships.

She said the state is pursuing an ambitious programme to build a one million-member Anambra Digital Tribe, aimed at equipping young people with digital skills and expanding opportunities in the technology sector.

In addition, the partnership between UNDP Nigeria and the Anambra State Government has supported youth-focused programmes, including Young Africa Innovates (YAI), the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) and the establishment of an innovation makerspace currently under development at SID.

She described the programmes complement the state government’s agenda by creating pathways for young people to acquire digital skills, develop innovative solutions, pursue entrepreneurship and participate in the digital economy.

During the visit, Attafuah commended the Soludo administration for its investments in innovation, human capital development and enterprise growth, describing the progress recorded in the state as remarkable.

Okoli reaffirmed SID’s commitment to translating Governor Soludo’s vision of “Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere” into practical opportunities for residents through stronger collaboration with development partners.

The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss collaboration on digital skills, innovation and youth economic opportunities.
