The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that several ongoing road projects in Abuja will be completed and delivered in December.
Wike gave the assurance on Tuesday after inspecting the ongoing construction of Arterial Road N1, from Wuye to Ring Road II, Tungan Madaki-Zuba Road and Kagini Road to the Kubwa Expressway.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the projects, the minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and commended the contractors for their commitment to meeting the completion deadlines.
“I’m very impressed with the jobs so far, and I’m also impressed with the commitment of the contractors.
“We have promised the residents that this will be their Christmas gift from Mr President, so that they’ll go back home and enjoy their Christmas celebration.
“You can imagine the happiness of those who stay here. You know that with these roads, the economy of the affected communities will change,” he said.
Wike said the completion of the projects would ease transportation challenges and stimulate economic activities in communities along the road corridors.
He said improved road infrastructure in suburban and rural communities would also enhance the quality of life of residents.
“When you see a rural area like this, it makes us very happy when the people are happy and, of course, that’s the essence of good governance,” he said.
On the effect of rainfall on construction activities, Wike acknowledged that the rainy season had slowed some earthworks but expressed confidence that work would accelerate as the rains subside.
“You know, I was having doubts, but the contractors are fully committed. If not for the rains, I know they would have gone far.
“I believe that from the first week of October, the rains will not be much again, and you will see how they will continue with earthworks,” he said.
Wike reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and meeting its obligations to residents.
During his interaction with residents along the Tungan Madaki-Zuba Road and Kagini-Kubwa Expressway corridors, the minister also made appeals concerning the 2027 elections, urging them to support President Bola Tinubu and former FCT Senator Philip Aduda.
He described Aduda as a candidate who could facilitate stronger links between the FCT and the Federal Government.
The minister said the administration would continue to push contractors to meet the December completion target for the affected road projects.
