Wike Urges PDP Members to Mobilise for 2027

By Chika Eze, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Nyesom Wike, has urged members of the party to remain united and work towards reclaiming political power in the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the call at the PDP’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, where the party inaugurated its 2026–2030 National Executive Committee and presented Certificates of Return to its governorship candidates.

Addressing party leaders, candidates and members, Wike said political power could only be attained through hard work, organisation and determination.

“Nobody gives power. Power is taken. If you want to reclaim power in 2027, you must organise yourselves, work hard and fight for it. Challenges are part of politics, and they should strengthen rather than discourage us,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor urged the party’s governorship candidates to remain courageous in the face of political challenges and inspire confidence among their supporters.

He also called on party officials and stakeholders to contribute actively to the PDP’s electoral success.

“Everybody must bring something to the table in 2027. Whether it is a governorship, National Assembly or State Assembly seat, every leader must have results to show. Politics is about performance, not excuses,” he stated.

On the party’s preparations for the elections, Wike expressed confidence in the PDP’s readiness and dismissed concerns over ongoing legal disputes.

“As far as I am concerned, we are ready. Nobody should be afraid of the courts. While others continue with litigation, we will continue preparing for elections,” he added.

He expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge stronger after the 2027 elections and continue to play a significant role in Nigeria’s democratic development.

Earlier, the PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, described the NEC meeting as a demonstration of the party’s commitment to rebuilding its structures and strengthening internal cohesion nationwide.

He congratulated candidates who emerged from the party’s recently concluded primaries and commended state chairmen and party leaders for conducting what he described as peaceful and credible exercises across the country.

Mohammed also praised members of the National Working Committee (NWC) for providing leadership during a challenging period, saying their efforts had strengthened internal democracy and boosted public confidence in the party.

The National Chairman commended the PDP National Youth Leader, Ambassador Balarabe Aboki, for initiatives aimed at increasing youth participation and enhancing women’s involvement in party activities.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Wike, describing him as a key figure in the party’s continued growth and development.

Mohammed reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to peaceful politics, internal democracy and issue-based campaigns, expressing confidence that the party would offer Nigerians a credible alternative in the 2027 general elections.

He further expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and commended security agencies for their role in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the party’s primaries nationwide.

The meeting featured the inauguration of the PDP’s 2026–2030 National Executive Committee and the presentation of Certificates of Return to the party’s governorship candidates ahead of forthcoming off-cycle governorship elections.
