Katsina Government Denies Sponsoring Hajj for Bandits

The Katsina State Government has dismissed allegations that it sponsored Hajj pilgrimage for bandit leaders or individuals involved in criminal activities, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The allegation was reportedly made by a public commentator, Bashir Kurfi, during a programme aired on Trust TV.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mua’zu, the government said there was no truth to the claim and maintained that it had never sponsored any bandit leader or criminal element to perform the pilgrimage.

According to the statement, the allegation was baseless and aimed at misleading the public while undermining ongoing efforts by the government and security agencies to address security challenges in the state.

The government expressed concern over the timing of the allegation, noting that security agencies, with the support of the state administration, had recorded significant successes in tackling banditry and other related crimes across Katsina State.

It further described the claim as a politically motivated attempt to distract public attention from progress made in the fight against insecurity and to erode public confidence in government efforts.

The statement also accused some individuals and groups of politicising security issues for personal and political interests, alleging that such actions were intended to create mistrust among residents and derail developmental initiatives.

The state government challenged those behind the allegation to provide credible and verifiable evidence to support their claims, warning that it may explore legal options to protect its reputation if the allegations remain unsubstantiated.

While urging the public to disregard the claim, the government called on residents to continue supporting security agencies and other stakeholders working to restore lasting peace and stability in the state.

The Katsina State Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting ongoing security operations and implementing measures aimed at ensuring the safety, welfare and prosperity of all residents.
