Nigeria’s Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy is gaining traction, with increased funding, stronger multi-sectoral engagement and growing adoption by state governments.
Gender Lead, DGA–Albright Stonebridge Group, Mrs Rinmicit Temlong-Aboki, disclosed this while presenting the mid-point review of the policy’s implementation at the 26th Regular National Council on Women Affairs and Child Development in Jalingo, Taraba State.
She said the policy was providing a framework for expanding women’s economic participation and addressing barriers limiting their contribution to national development.
Temlong-Aboki said women account for about 70 per cent of Nigeria’s agricultural workforce and food production, but financial exclusion continues to limit their ability to invest, grow businesses and contribute fully to the economy.

She said more than 20 states had commenced the process of domesticating the policy, with Kaduna, Kano and Lagos already implementing their respective frameworks.
According to her, Kaduna domesticated the policy in October 2024, Lagos unveiled its Policy Roadmap in July 2025, while Kano launched its domesticated policy in March 2026.
She also reported a 96 per cent increase in the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs budget between 2025 and 2026, alongside state-level commitments to women’s empowerment.

She, however, stressed that effective implementation would require stronger state ownership, sustained financing, institutional coordination and greater private-sector participation.
