Yiaga Africa, a civil society organisation focused on promoting credible elections and democratic governance, says it will independently assess the conduct and results of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election through its “Watching the Vote” methodology.
The Chairperson of Yiaga Africa’s Osun State Election Observation Mission, Mrs Asmau Maikudi, disclosed this at a press briefing on Thursday in Osogbo, the state capital.
Maikudi said the methodology would be implemented through two complementary systems: the Process and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT), formerly known as Parallel Vote Tabulation, and the Election Result Analysis Dashboard 2.0 (ERAD 2.0).
She said Yiaga Africa would deploy 300 stationary observers to a representative random sample of polling units, supported by 32 mobile observers covering all 30 Local Government Areas of the state.
According to her, the observers would collect and transmit data on voter accreditation, voting and the counting process to enable the organisation independently assess the election.
Maikudi said ERAD 2.0 would track and independently audit polling-unit result sheets uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Election Results Viewing (IReV) portal.
She stressed that ERAD 2.0 would not collate the election results or declare a winner.
Instead, she said the platform would monitor the availability, accessibility, timeliness and completeness of electronically uploaded EC8A polling-unit result sheets.
According to Yiaga Africa, the system would also provide an independent assessment of INEC’s electronic results management system.
Independent Verification
The Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Mr Samson Itodo, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to verifying the accuracy and credibility of the election results without fear or intimidation from any stakeholder.
Itodo said the organisation would carry out its observation responsibilities independently and professionally to provide credible information on the electoral process.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
