Ramadan: Cleric urges Muslims to increase acts of worship

Muslims in Nigeria have been charged to increase their acts of worship as the month of Ramadan approaches.

Speaking during the Islamic Society of Eggonland 8th pre-Ramadan Lecture, in Nasarawa Eggon local governments area of the state, an Islamic Cleric, Hafiz Umar Marafa sheds light on the negative impact of terrorism in modern society.

He however laments over the high level of violence and consequent bloodletting in the state and country, calling for urgent action against the menace.

“The rising cases of kidnapping and other crimes across the Nassarawa Eggon local government area and some parts of the state is worrisome as it negates the teachings of the two major Religion-Christianity and Islam”,

Hafiz Marafa warned those who shed the blood of others of the repercussions of such actions.

He said Almighty Allah through the Holy Quran, abhor such acts and was explicit about the punishment that awaits the perpetrators on the day of judgment.

“Terrorism, kidnapping and other crimes have no place in Islam, I urge the adherents of the religion who are involved in the act to repent and turn a new leave before it is too late.”

He called on the federal government to put in place a mechanism to discourage the proliferation of arms and ammunition across the red zones of the country including Nasarawa State.

The cleric also called for arms mop-up in Nassarawa Eggon local government area and other designated trouble zones in the state.

Hafiz Marafa appealed to Islamic scholars to always preach against crimes and criminalities during their sermons in mosques and other religious gatherings so that adherents can understand the danger of engaging in such acts.

Speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Ustaz, Usman Galadima, called for peaceful coexistence among various religious groups in the state.

In his remarks, the Secretary General of the Society of Eggonland, Alh. Abdullahi Galle, said the pre Ramadan lecture is very crucial as it would help create awareness of the do’s and don’ts of Ramadan to the people of the grassroots.

He further called on political leaders to desist from actions that would encourage violence and cause tension in the country.
