A governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Mogaji Kayode Ogunshola, has highlighted his experience and plans for the state, emphasising economic empowerment, youth skills development, rural advancement, and inclusive governance if elected as Governor come 2027.
Ogunshola says he is bringing over 30 years of experience across both public and private sectors, having worked in more than 20 countries.
An entrepreneur with international business interests, he previously served as Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora in the United Kingdom from 2008 to 2012.
He also spent nearly a decade in government service under President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Ogunshola holds four degrees and is currently pursuing a PhD.
On economic development, he stressed the importance of strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as the foundation for growth.
“All the major developed countries built their economies on SMEs. We must look at industries that already exist locally and enhance them through beneficiation, equipment, and training,” he said.
He cited examples such as traditional pottery and the wood industry, emphasising the need to increase skill levels and output for export potential.
Ogunshola also addressed youth employment, noting the lack of local engagement in construction projects.
“We need to build faculties and centres of excellence in masonry, carpentry, and woodwork,” he said. “Skill development will enable our youths to compete both locally and internationally.”

Rural development and agriculture are other key priorities. Ogunshola proposed building rural roads, irrigation systems, storage facilities, and agro-processing centres to transform subsistence farming into a commercial system that generates wealth and employment.
Education and healthcare are critical pillars in his vision. He pledged to renovate public schools, equip technical institutions, and provide young people with practical and digital skills.
On healthcare, he aims to strengthen primary healthcare centres to ensure affordable, quality services and retain qualified professionals within the state.
Governance, Ogunshola stressed, must be transparent and inclusive.
“Government must work with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth, and women’s groups,” he said, adding that public funds must be properly managed and policies crafted to attract investment and promote economic stability.
On security, he highlighted the multifactorial nature of the issue, including herder-farmer conflicts, poverty, and youth unemployment, and called for tailored solutions for each challenge. Regarding zoning, he acknowledged historical considerations that influence current political arrangements.
Ogunshola’s vision presents a comprehensive approach aimed at creating economic opportunities, improving infrastructure, and ensuring inclusive governance for Oyo State.
