President Bola Tinubu has described Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of uninterrupted leadership as a rare achievement in any democracy and a testament to the enduring confidence reposed in him by the Indian people.
President Tinubu stated this on Wednesday in a congratulatory message posted on his official X handle, @OfficialABAT, as Modi marked 25 years since he first assumed office as Chief Minister of Gujarat.
The President noted that after more than 12 years of leading Gujarat, Modi moved to the national stage in 2014 and has remained Prime Minister of India since then.
“A quarter-century of unbroken leadership is a rare achievement in any democracy. In the world’s most populous nation, it is a powerful testament to the enduring confidence the Indian people have placed in him,” President Tinubu said.
He commended the Indian Prime Minister’s leadership and commitment to development over the past 25 years, highlighting progress in infrastructure, digital public goods, financial inclusion and innovation.

President Tinubu noted that Modi’s journey from the transformation of Gujarat to India’s emergence as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies has also provided inspiration to countries across the Global South.
The Nigerian leader also reaffirmed the strong strategic partnership between Nigeria and India, recalling Prime Minister Modi’s State Visit to Abuja in November 2024, during which Nigeria conferred on him the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON.
President Tinubu said the visit injected fresh momentum into bilateral cooperation between both countries in trade and investment, energy, defence and security, health, education and technology.
He further highlighted that Nigeria and India, as fellow democracies and leading voices of the Global South, share a commitment to building a fairer, more inclusive and representative international order.
The President expressed confidence that relations between both countries would continue to deepen under Modi’s leadership.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and on my own behalf, I extend warm and fraternal congratulations to His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, on a truly historic milestone,” he said.
President Tinubu wished the Indian Prime Minister good health, continued strength and greater success in the service of his country.
