President Tinubu Tasks NAMYO Chairperson on Inclusive Leadership

Temitope Mustapha, Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Muhammed Bello Bala Shagari to uphold the principles of service, inclusiveness and mutual respect as he assumes leadership of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organisation (NAMYO) for the 2026–2029 term.

The President, while congratulating Shagari on his election as Chairperson of the organisation, described his emergence as a significant achievement for Nigeria and recognition of his contributions to youth development and international engagement.

He said the Nigerian Government remained committed to creating opportunities for young Nigerians to participate meaningfully in national development and assume leadership responsibilities at home and internationally.

President Tinubu stated this in a congratulatory message signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

He emphasised that his administration would continue to support initiatives that empower young Nigerians through skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation, education, sustainable development and greater participation in public and international affairs.

The Nigerian Leader therefore urged Shagari to use his new position to promote cooperation, peace and sustainable development among young people, while advancing the aspirations of the Global South.

President Tinubu wished Shagari a successful tenure and assured him of the Nigerian Government’s support.

Shagari, a former Vice Chairperson of NAMYO for Africa and President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, is expected to use his new position to strengthen youth cooperation and promote the interests and aspirations of young people across the Global South.

The Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organisation is an international platform that brings together young people from member states of the Non-Aligned Movement. Founded in October 2021 and established as a full international organisation following the adoption of the Shusha Accords in July 2022, NAMYO is headquartered in Baku, Azerbaijan. The organisation promotes sustainable development, youth leadership, peacebuilding and climate action across its member countries.
