The Akwa Ibom State Government has paid ₦97.03 billion in outstanding gratuities to pensioners, significantly reducing the ₦111 billion backlog inherited by the Umo Eno administration, while approving another ₦3.9 billion for the 2026 leave grants of serving civil servants.
The latest payment underscores the administration’s sustained commitment to improving the welfare of retired public servants and progressively clearing long-standing financial obligations owed by the state.
In a separate welfare intervention for serving workers, Governor Eno has approved the release of ₦3,909,182,952.65 for the payment of the 2026 leave grants to civil servants across the state.

The leave grants will be disbursed in three tranches, beginning in September, with subsequent payments scheduled for October and November.
The phased payment is designed to provide timely financial support to civil servants while ensuring an orderly release of the approved funds.
The government said the twin interventions reflect its people-centred approach to governance under the ARISE Agenda, with sustained investments in the welfare of both serving and retired workers.
It noted that the continued settlement of gratuities demonstrates its resolve to honour legitimate entitlements, restore confidence in the public service and provide relief to pensioners who had waited years for payment.
The State Government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing policies and programmes that improve working conditions, strengthen public institutions and enhance the wellbeing of citizens across Akwa Ibom State.
