All 21 Local Government Council Chairmen and 226 Councillors in Adamawa State have reportedly defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defections, announced are seen as a significant political development in the state, following Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s move to the APC.
Most of the council chairmen communicated their resignations from the PDP in letters addressed to their respective ward party chairmen across the state’s 21 local government areas.
Some of the chairmen cited personal reasons and consultations with their families and political associates as factors behind their decisions, describing the move as one aimed at promoting collective progress, unity and development.

Confirming the defections, the Adamawa State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr Victor Dogo, said all 21 local government chairmen, area development administrators and 226 councillors had joined the party.
According to Dogo, the move was largely driven by their desire to align politically with Governor Fintiri, whom he described as their political benefactor.
“They are all aligning with their godfather, Governor Fintiri, who paved the way for them. They said they felt they were wasting their time by not being on the same political platform as their godfather,” Dogo said.
Political analysts in Adamawa State described the development as a move that had been in the making for some time, suggesting that the defections were part of a broader political realignment in the state.
The development further strengthens the APC’s political presence in Adamawa, although the long-term implications for the state’s political landscape remain to be seen.
