The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has distributed more than 400 packs of hybrid non-genetically modified organism (Non-GMO) seeds to residents across four local government areas to strengthen household food production and promote food security in southeastern Nigeria.
The seed distribution exercise, carried out on Saturday through members of the Healthy Living Team, benefited participants in the organisation’s routine fitness and wellness sessions held in Dunukofia, Nnewi North, Idemili North and Idemili South Local Government Areas.
The initiative forms part of a broader programme by the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo movement, which recently announced plans to distribute 5,000 packs of hybrid Non-GMO seeds to households across Anambra State.
In a statement issued in Awka, Nonye Soludo said the intervention aligns with efforts to encourage food sufficiency, improve nutrition, and enhance household resilience amid growing concerns over food affordability and access.
“Following the earlier announcement that my NGO would be distributing 5,000 packs of Hybrid Non-GMO seeds, members of the Healthy Living Team today distributed seed packs to over 400 people who joined our routine Healthy Living workout sessions,” she said.

According to her, the exercise was conducted simultaneously across the four local government areas, demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to integrating health promotion with sustainable food production.
Each seed pack contains carefully selected varieties of maize, tomatoes, pepper, cucumber, cabbage, okra and other vegetables, enabling beneficiaries to establish household gardens and small-scale farms capable of supplying nutritious food for family consumption.
Dr. Soludo noted that the initiative reflects a broader understanding of wellness that extends beyond physical exercise.
“For us, healthy living goes beyond workouts and wellness routines. It also means encouraging food sufficiency and healthy dietary habits, promoting good nutrition, and empowering households with practical tools to support their wellbeing,” she stated.
The programme is expected to further encourage residents to engage in backyard farming and community-based food production, supporting ongoing efforts to improve nutrition and strengthen food systems at the household level.
