Anambra Sets Campaign Permit Fees Ahead of 2027 Elections

By Chinwe Onuigbo, Awka

The Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) has unveiled guidelines and approved permit fees for outdoor political campaigns and visual promotional activities ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with presidential candidates required to pay ₦50 million to conduct campaign advertising in the state.

The agency announced the regulations during a press briefing at its headquarters in Awka, the Anambra State capital, urging political parties, candidates, support groups and advertising practitioners to comply with established rules governing campaign-related outdoor promotions.

Speaking on behalf of the agency’s management, the Assistant General Manager of ANSAA, Mr. Chika Ngobili, said the guidelines were designed to ensure orderly, peaceful and professionally regulated political campaigns across the state, particularly as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares to lift restrictions on electioneering activities.

Ngobili commended political parties and aspirants for the peaceful conduct of their internal processes and urged them to sustain the atmosphere of civility and maturity throughout the campaign period.

Under the approved fee structure, presidential candidates will pay ₦50 million for campaign permits, while senatorial candidates will pay ₦20 million. Candidates seeking election into the House of Representatives will pay ₦5 million, while those contesting seats in the Anambra State House of Assembly will pay ₦1.5 million.

For local government elections scheduled for August 29, chairmanship candidates will pay ₦2.5 million, while councillorship candidates will pay ₦100,000.

According to ANSAA, the permits cover a range of campaign materials and activities, including posters, banners, branded vehicles, public address systems, flyers, buntings, campaign booths, rallies, T-shirts, caps, street campaigns and other outdoor promotional materials within approved locations.

The agency stated that all political parties, candidates and support groups intending to conduct outdoor campaigns in Anambra State must obtain the mandatory permits before deploying campaign materials or organising promotional activities.

ANSAA explained that the permit system is intended to maintain environmental aesthetics, prevent visual pollution, protect public infrastructure and ensure fairness in access to advertising spaces across the state.

The agency also reiterated that all campaign advertisements and promotional materials must receive prior approval from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) before public display.

It warned against the indiscriminate erection of billboards and advertising structures, stressing that only licensed advertising practitioners registered with ARCON and authorised by ANSAA are permitted to undertake such activities.

The agency further prohibited the indiscriminate posting of campaign materials on public buildings, bridges, flyovers, drainage channels, road signs, utility installations, schools, hospitals and other restricted public facilities.
