Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will inaugurate President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council on Wednesday, October 14, as the party begins preparations for the next presidential election.

The inauguration is scheduled for 11a.m local time at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The ceremony follows the release of an expanded membership list by the APC, bringing together prominent political figures, serving governors, former public office holders and members of other political parties to coordinate President Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

The party announced the development in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

President Tinubu will chair the campaign council, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima as First Vice Chairman, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as Second Vice Chairman, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio as First Deputy Vice Chairman.

Former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari has been appointed Director-General of the council, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma will serve as Secretary.

Other officials include; Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni and Senate Chief Whip, Opeyemi Bamidele, who have been named deputy directors-general.

A notable feature of the Council’s composition is the inclusion of major political figures from opposition parties.
Among them is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has been appointed campaign coordinator for Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
Similarly, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will coordinate the campaign in Anambra State, while Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, of the Accord Party, will oversee campaign activities in Osun State.

Former Lagos State Governor and Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, is also among the prominent political figures included in the expanded Campaign Council.

The council will have various directorates responsible for election planning, mobilisation, logistics, media and strategic communications, fundraising, security and intelligence, among other functions.

The APC said further details on the membership of the various directorates would be released soon.

Coordinating Framework
The inauguration is expected to provide a framework for coordinating the party’s nationwide campaign strategy, political mobilisation, voter engagement and communication of the administration’s policies and achievements.
Meanwhile, the APC has scheduled the formal flag-off of President Tinubu’s re-election campaign for Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Kaduna State.
The campaign is subsequently expected to move to Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Maiduguri in Borno State as part of the party’s nationwide mobilisation ahead of the presidential election.
The Director-General of the Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, had earlier disclosed after meeting with President Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, that the President had approved the proposed campaign timetable.
The inauguration marks a significant step in the APC’s preparations to consolidate political support across the country’s geopolitical zones ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
