A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), polling 12,001 votes (47.06%) to defeat two other contenders in the association’s presidential election.
Official results showed that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, garnered 7,737 votes (30.34%), while another Senior Advocate of Nigeria Olumuyiwa Akinboro, secured 5,766 votes (22.61%), out of a total of 25,504 votes cast.
Reacting to her election, Badejo-Okusanya thanked members of the association, saying: “Today, I am filled with profound gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility. Thank you to the members of the Nigerian Bar Association for the confidence you have reposed in me by electing me as your President. I am deeply humbled by your trust.”
Describing the outcome as a shared achievement, she stated that “This victory belongs to all of us who believe in A BOLDER BAR THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE.”
She also appreciated her fellow contestants, campaign team, supporters, family and mentors for their support throughout the election.
Looking ahead, the President-elect declared: “The campaign is over. The work begins now. I pledge to serve every member of the Nigerian Bar Association with integrity, humility, courage, and accountability. Together, we will build an NBA where lawyers can earn better, live better, and practise better. May God bless the Nigerian Bar Association and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
With this win, Badejo-Okusanya, the only female contender in the race becomes the 33rd President of the revered association of Legal Practitioners in Nigeria.
