Edo Deputy Governor Backs Tribute To Music Legends

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr Dennis Idahosa, has backed plans by the Edo Music Elders Forum to honour late music legends in the state.

Idahosa expressed the support on Tuesday when he received members of the forum on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin.

The Deputy Governor said the state government appreciated the forum’s efforts to preserve the legacy of veteran musicians and promote Edo’s cultural heritage.

He also promised to reach out to the management of the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub over the forum’s request to use the facility for its remembrance programme scheduled for August 28, subject to the venue’s availability.

Idahosa further expressed willingness to attend the event, adding that he would send a representative if official engagements prevented him from being present.

Earlier, the Chairman of the forum, Roland Igbinigie, popularly known as “Akaba Man”, said the visit was to seek government support for the forum’s initiative to annually honour departed music legends.

Igbinigie said the maiden edition would commemorate the late Victor Uwaifo and other deceased Edo music icons, appealing for approval to use the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub for the event.

He said the initiative was aimed at preserving the contributions of late musicians and inspiring younger generations through the celebration of their works.
