Emporium Reporters, a leading online news platform and publisher of Emporium Magazine, has honoured the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, with the Media Leadership and Civic Engagement Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to journalism, media development and professional leadership.
The award was presented during the maiden edition of the Emporium Leadership Lecture and Awards 2026, held at the Buhari Bello Auditorium, National Human Rights Commission Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja.
Organised by Royalprince Media Services, publishers of Emporium Reporters and Emporium Magazine, the event also marked the organisation’s 10th anniversary. The lecture was themed “From Clicks to Credibility: Digital Media’s Role in Deepening Nigeria’s Democracy”.
The event attracted prominent personalities from the media, government, civil society and the private sector, who deliberated on the evolving role of digital journalism in promoting accountability, transparency and democratic governance.
Presenting the award, the organisers described Comrade Grace Ike as an accomplished media professional whose exemplary leadership has strengthened journalism practice and advanced the welfare of journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.
They noted that her unwavering commitment to ethical journalism, press freedom and professionalism has earned her widespread respect within and beyond the media industry.
Receiving the award, Comrade Ike expressed gratitude to Emporium Reporters for the recognition, describing it as an honour that reflects the collective efforts of journalists committed to safeguarding the integrity of the profession.
She commended the organisation for its decade-long commitment to credible journalism and for creating a platform that encourages meaningful conversations on issues critical to national development.
The NUJ FCT Chairman also underscored the importance of factual, balanced and responsible reporting in an era increasingly shaped by digital media and citizen journalism.
She observed that while technology has expanded access to information, journalists must remain steadfast in upholding the core principles of accuracy, objectivity and accountability in order to sustain public confidence in the media.
Comrade Ike further urged journalists and other media stakeholders to collaborate in tackling misinformation, disinformation and unethical practices that threaten the credibility of the profession.
