The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has urged girls in Nigeria and across the world to believe in their abilities and pursue their ambitions as the world marks the International Day of the Girl Child.
In her goodwill message marking the celebration, the Minister encouraged girls to embrace education, leadership and personal development, stressing that their voices and aspirations matter.
“To every girl with a dream in her heart: your voice matters, your dreams are valid, and your possibilities are limitless,” she said.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu acknowledged that the journey towards achieving success may not always be easy, but urged girls not to allow societal expectations or difficult circumstances to limit their ambitions.
“As a woman, I know that the journey may not always be easy. But never let your circumstances, society, or anyone else define the boundaries of your ambition,” the Minister said.
She encouraged girls to take bold steps towards achieving their goals, calling on them to embrace learning, dream big and develop the confidence to assume leadership positions.
“Learn. Dream. Dare. Lead. Take your place with confidence, and never apologise for aspiring to greatness,” she stated.
The Foreign Affairs Minister also celebrated the strength, brilliance and potential of girls, noting that their contributions would be important in shaping the future.
She urged girls to recognise their value, use their voices and take advantage of opportunities to contribute meaningfully to society.
“The future needs your voice. Rise and claim your place in it,” Odumegwu-Ojukwu added.
The International Day of the Girl Child is observed annually to highlight the rights of girls, promote equal opportunities and draw attention to challenges affecting their education, safety, empowerment and participation in society.
