The Nasarawa State Governor in North Central Nigeria, Abdullahi Sule, has emphasised that peace and unity are critical to sustaining the state’s ongoing economic growth.

The Governor also warned political actors against allowing partisan differences to spill over into violence as political activities gradually peaks ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

Governor Sule made the remarks during the Nasarawa State Cultural Carnival, held to celebrate the state’s 30th anniversary in Lafia the state capital.

He highlighted that the state’s economic momentum especially within the solid minerals sector rests entirely on maintaining a stable and peaceful environment.

“All the seven critical minerals in Nigeria are present in Nasarawa State. We have the largest lithium processing plant in Africa here because investors see peace,” Governor Sule stated.

He noted that peaceful coexistence has been the primary catalyst in convincing investors to set up local mining and processing operations rather than exporting raw resources.

Upcoming elections
Govenror Sule cautioned against political intolerance and destructive rivalries due to political activities expected to pick up ahead of upcoming elections.

“Elections are coming very soon; we cannot all be on the same page, but let us disagree with respect. Power comes only from God Almighty. Once there is crisis, no investor will show interest,” he warned.

The Governor expressed strong support for key reforms championed by President Bola Tinubu, particularly in power generation, revenue generation, and national security specifically throwing his weight behind the State Police Bill currently before state assemblies.

He noted that establishing a state Police Force would allow Nasarawa to better secure its communities and protect its economic assets.

Reflecting on his administration’s seven-year record, Governor Sule outlined progress made in worker welfare, healthcare, education, and vocational training.

He credited the collective unity of the populace for transforming Lafia from a modest town into a thriving urban center over the last three decades.

Sule expressed gratitude to traditional leaders including the Emir of Lafia as well as visiting delegations from Ireland, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority for attending the event.

Voice of Nigeria, reports that the anniversary carnival featured a colorful procession from the City Gate to Lafia Square, showcasing diverse cultural troupes and ethnic groups to the delight of onlookers.
