Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has intensified efforts to transform the state’s agricultural landscape, as he hosted a high-level delegation from Indian-based Srinivasa Farms Pvt. Ltd. during a strategic visit to Dutse, the state capital.

The delegation, led by Vice President, Mr. Senthil Krishnan, is in the state following Jigawa’s investment mission to India in May 2025, where discussions on agricultural partnerships—particularly in poultry development—were initiated.

As part of their visit, the team is conducting a four-day technical assessment across Kazaure, Gumel, Hadejia, and Dutse.

The exercise includes inspections of poultry facilities, consultations with local farmers, and exploration of key investment opportunities, such as the establishment of a modern hatchery and poultry feed mill.

Governor Namadi described the engagement as a major breakthrough with the potential to unlock economic growth, create employment opportunities for youths, and boost the state’s internally generated revenue.

He emphasized that the partnership aligns with his administration’s commitment to strengthening food security and driving industrial development through private sector collaboration.

“This is a return visit following our earlier engagement in India. It reflects growing investor confidence in Jigawa’s agricultural potential,” the governor said, noting that the state has already recorded progress through partnerships in seed production, agribusiness, and dairy development.

He added that the proposed collaboration with Srinivasa Farms would focus on building a sustainable poultry value chain, including the establishment of hatchery and feed production facilities, alongside training and technology transfer for local farmers.

“This initiative will directly benefit poultry farmers and uplift rural livelihoods across the state,” he stated.

Empowering Small and Medium-scale Farmers

In his remarks, Mr. Krishnan highlighted Srinivasa Farms’ over six decades of experience in poultry production, spanning hatchery management, feed processing, and egg production across multiple countries.

He noted that findings from the team’s assessment revealed strong potential for investment, citing similarities in climate and farming conditions between Jigawa and parts of India.

According to him, the partnership is designed to empower small and medium-scale farmers with access to quality chicks, affordable feed, veterinary services, and reliable market channels, enabling them to scale up production and profitability.

The initiative is also expected to introduce modern poultry practices, enhance biosecurity standards, and ensure a steady supply of poultry products, positioning Jigawa as a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
