Katsina Distributes Learning Materials to Students With Disabilities

The Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, has distributed specialised teaching and learning materials to students with special needs in Katsina State as part of efforts to promote inclusive education.

The intervention, which targeted the Katsina School for the Blind and the Malumfashi School for the Deaf, was carried out during the launch of the second phase of the School Improvement Grants under the TESS programme in Katsina state.

The items distributed included 422 talking wristwatches for visually impaired students, 200 Braille writing kits, 200 Braille textbooks, 200 white canes, four wheelchairs, two Braille embossing machines, 20 Braille typewriters, 200 stylus pens, 30 computers installed with JAWS software, 40 packs of Braille sheets, 20 packs of Braillon paper and 20 cartons of A4 paper.

Governor Dikko Radda said the initiative formed part of the administration’s commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of physical condition, has access to quality education.

Radda noted that the government would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at improving learning opportunities for vulnerable and disadvantaged children across the state.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen inclusive education through the provision of modern instructional materials and improved support systems for students with disabilities.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Katsina State, Yusuf Suleiman Jibiya, described the intervention as a major step toward addressing the educational needs of students with disabilities.

He said the distribution of the specialised materials would enhance teaching and learning in special schools and provide students with the tools needed to improve their academic performance and social inclusion.
