Kwara Monarchs, APC Leaders Hail Tinubu Over Danladi’s Emergence

Tunde Akanbi, Ilorin

Traditional rulers, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political stakeholders from Kwara State have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the emergence of Rt Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election, describing the development as a victory for fairness, equity and justice.

The delegation, comprising representatives from Kwara North, South and Central, paid a thank-you visit to the President in Abuja. They were received on his behalf by the Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Masari.

Led by the Etsu Patigi and Vice-Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim Bologi II, and the Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, the delegation said Danladi’s emergence fulfilled the long-standing aspiration of Kwara North to produce the next governor after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq completes his second term.

Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority and Kwara State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Gidado Alakawa, said the visit was to express appreciation to President Tinubu for supporting what he described as a fair and inclusive political process. He noted that traditional rulers had spent the past two years consulting stakeholders across the state to build consensus for the governorship to rotate to Kwara North.

According to him, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the APC leadership embraced the aspiration, while President Tinubu’s support strengthened party unity and validated the consensus reached across the three senatorial districts.

Prince Fagbemi reaffirmed the Kwara APC’s loyalty to President Tinubu and dismissed claims that the party’s governorship primary was flawed. He maintained that the exercise followed due process under the supervision of committees appointed by the APC national leadership.

He acknowledged that some aspirants were dissatisfied with the outcome but stressed that the overwhelming majority of party leaders, elected officials, local government chairmen and traditional rulers supported Danladi’s emergence. He expressed confidence that the APC would remain united and retain power in the state in the 2027 elections.

The Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Okikiola Esuwoye II, said the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council played a key role in promoting the power shift to Kwara North in the interest of justice and inclusiveness. He commended Governor AbdulRazaq for allowing a transparent process and urged aggrieved aspirants to embrace reconciliation for the good of the party.

Similarly, the Etsu Patigi described Danladi’s emergence as the beginning of a new chapter in Kwara’s political history, saying it reflected the principles of fairness, equity and justice. He assured President Tinubu that the traditional institution would work to reconcile all aggrieved party members and strengthen APC unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

Responding on behalf of the President, Masari thanked the delegation for its support and acknowledged the role of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council in promoting political stability and electoral success. He appealed for continued collaboration to sustain peace, unity and cohesion within the party as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
