The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the distribution of 4,000 food baskets donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to vulnerable households in Anambra State.
The distribution forms part of 24,302 food baskets donated by the Saudi-based humanitarian organisation for beneficiaries across Anambra, Yobe, Taraba, Benue and other states.

Support for Vulnerable Families
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Awka, NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar, represented by the agency’s South-East Zonal Director, Walson Brandon, said the intervention reflects the strong partnership between NEMA and KSrelief in addressing humanitarian challenges in Nigeria.
She noted that the food support would provide relief to households affected by displacement, insecurity, disasters and current economic hardships.
Strengthening Humanitarian Response
Umar described KSrelief as a reliable partner that has consistently supported Nigeria’s emergency response efforts through humanitarian assistance and technical support.
She added that previous interventions by the organisation have complemented government efforts in assisting internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups across the country.

Transparent Distribution Process
The NEMA boss assured beneficiaries that the distribution exercise would be conducted transparently and monitored jointly by NEMA, the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and accredited volunteers.
She also urged residents in flood-prone communities to follow safety advisories and adopt preventive measures to reduce the impact of flooding during the rainy season.
Anambra Government Commends Initiative
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Chiamaka Nnake, thanked KSrelief and NEMA for the intervention.
He said the food items would be distributed across seven local government areas and cautioned beneficiaries against selling or diverting the relief materials.

Contents of Food Baskets
SEMA Deputy Director, Omega Ndidi, described the donation as timely, noting that each basket contains rice, beans, vegetable oil, tomato paste, salt, seasoning cubes and other essential food items weighing about 59.8 kilograms. She said beneficiaries were carefully selected to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability.
Beneficiaries Express Appreciation
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Chike Eze and Mary Umeh expressed gratitude to KSrelief, NEMA and the Federal Government for the support, describing the assistance as timely amid prevailing economic challenges.
