The Nigerian Government has congratulated Carlos Vila Nova on his re-election as President of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, describing the outcome as a reflection of the country’s commitment to democratic governance and the rule of law.
In a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Nigerian Government commended the people of São Tomé and Príncipe for conducting a peaceful election and demonstrating political maturity through their participation in the electoral process.
According to the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria applauded the civic responsibility displayed by the electorate in exercising their democratic rights.
“The people of São Tomé and Príncipe have once again demonstrated their commitment to democratic values and the rule of law by participating in a peaceful electoral process,” the statement reads.
Nigeria reaffirmed its solidarity with the Government and people of São Tomé and Príncipe and pledged to continue strengthening the longstanding ties of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect between both countries.
According to the statement, the country looks forward to expanding collaboration with São Tomé and Príncipe in areas of mutual interest, including regional peace and security, economic development and the consolidation of democratic institutions across the African continent.
While wishing President Vila Nova a successful second term in office, the Nigerian Government also expressed its best wishes to the people of São Tomé and Príncipe.
“The Government of Nigeria wishes His Excellency President Carlos Vila Nova a successful second term in office and extends its best wishes for the continued progress, stability, and prosperity of the people of São Tomé and Príncipe,” statement read.
