Nigeria Disclaims False Letter Sent to Liberia’s Minister

By Margaret Ebeshi

The Nigerian Government has disclaimed a letter circulating on social media and other online platforms, purportedly issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and addressed to the Foreign Minister of Liberia.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Ministry described the document as fake, unauthorised, and not originating from the Ministry or any official channel of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

According to the Ministry, the letter, which reportedly concerns statements attributed to a Nigerian religious leader, is a fabrication designed to mislead the public and potentially create unnecessary diplomatic tension between Nigeria and Liberia, two countries that enjoy longstanding friendly relations.

The Ministry noted that a preliminary examination of the document revealed several inconsistencies with established diplomatic communication procedures and official correspondence protocols, further confirming its lack of authenticity.

It therefore urged members of the public, media organisations, and other stakeholders to disregard the purported letter and avoid sharing unverified documents capable of causing confusion or damaging diplomatic relations.

The Ministry also said that relevant authorities and security agencies have been alerted and are taking appropriate steps to identify those responsible for the fraudulent document and ensure they are brought to justice.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and responsible diplomatic engagement, the Ministry assured the Government and people of Liberia of Nigeria’s continued friendship, goodwill, and highest regard.
