The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned Corps members to conduct themselves in accordance with the provisions of the Scheme’s Bye-Laws and the Nigerian Constitution.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two corps members deployed to Kano State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Karaye, Kano State.
He said; “any Corps member who engaged in acts capable of denting the image of the Scheme or the nation would face the relevant provisions of the NYSC Bye-Laws.”

“You are expected to become brand ambassadors, representing the NYSC, your families and the institutions from which you graduated,” he said.
Nafiu also advised the Corps members to apply their education by thinking logically and creatively while contributing their quota to national development.
He urged them to use their time wisely and engage in activities that would add value to their lives during the service year.
“Don’t waste your time. Upskill yourselves, find out those skills that are essential in line with your course of study and acquire them,” Nafiu said.
“Promote positive content that can promote the culture and values of your host communities and the Scheme,” he added.

While wishing them a successful orientation course and an eventful service year, the Director-General advised the Corps members to always seek approval from their NYSC State Coordinator before travelling outside their state of service for any reason.
“For those who may have reason to travel out of Nigeria during the service year, the law says you must obtain permission from the NYSC Director-General,” he said.
In her orientation camp situation report to the Director-General, the NYSC Kano State Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Abubakar, said 2,428 corps members, comprising 1,024 males and 1,404 females, had been registered.

She said that the Corps members had demonstrated loyalty and dedication and adjusted to the regimented camp life, while teamwork among officials had provided the foundation for excellent service delivery.
