Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation within the BRICS bloc, with emphasis on resilience, innovation, sustainability, and South-South cooperation.
Nigeria’s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Ahmed, stated this during the 18th BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting held in New Delhi, India.
Speaking on the theme, “BRICS at 20: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” Ahmed said the priorities of BRICS align with Nigeria’s development agenda and leadership role in Africa and the Global South.

He highlighted Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts, growth in technology and digital innovation, leadership within ECOWAS, and commitment to sustainable development through its Energy Transition Plan targeting net-zero emissions by 2060.
“Nigeria has adopted an ambitious Energy Transition Plan, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. We are scaling up renewable energy, investing in green finance, and promoting sustainable agriculture to ensure food security. Our commitment to the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals is unwavering,” he said.

Ahmed also stressed Nigeria’s support for deeper cooperation in trade, infrastructure, investment, and climate action among BRICS nations.
He noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to reforms that promote economic growth, fiscal discipline, and sustainable development.
The Permanent Secretary added that Nigeria is ready to work with BRICS partners to promote a more inclusive and balanced global order.
“We reiterate that Nigeria’s role in BRICS is to bring the voice of Africa and the Global South into this vital dialogue. We see BRICS as a platform to strengthen South-South cooperation. A cooperation based on inclusion, solidarity, mutual respect, and shared development,” he added.
