By Nokai Origin, Abuja

The Nigerian Army has sustained regional security operations in the Republic of Benin following the deployment of troops under Operation ATILEHIN ALAFIYA II to support democratic stability during the country’s electioneering and presidential transition process.

The deployment, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, formed part of Nigeria’s wider regional peace and security commitments within the ECOWAS framework.

Military authorities disclosed that troops maintained operational readiness across designated locations within Cotonou and surrounding areas before, during and after the electoral process to deter potential threats and reinforce public confidence.

The operation later expanded into security support arrangements during the inauguration ceremony of President Romuald Wadagni.

Army personnel were deployed to strategic locations including the main inauguration venue and other designated areas where layered security measures were activated to ensure peaceful proceedings.

Operational activities included static deployments, mobile patrols and area domination exercises aimed at enhancing situational awareness and preventing security breaches throughout the ceremony.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, commended troops involved in the operation for maintaining discipline, professionalism and operational effectiveness throughout the deployment.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by regional dignitaries including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
