Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have recorded further operational successes in separate operations across Kaduna and Katsina States.
A statement by Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja said troops thwarted terrorist movements, recovered weapons and ammunition, arrested suspected terrorist logistics couriers, other criminal suspects, and rescued 14 kidnap victims.
“In Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1, acting on credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists through the bushes of Rijana in Kachia Local Government Area on 23 September 2026, swiftly mobilised to the area, laid an ambush and engaged the terrorists on sighting.
“Following the engagement, troops conducted a follow-up exploitation of the general area, leading to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, one magazine carrier and one military jungle hat, among other items.”

In a separate operation on the same day, troops of Sector 1 conducted a clearance operation at Awom Village in Kachia Local Government Area to deny terrorists and other criminal elements into safe haven in the community, Danja said.
During the operation, troops arrested a suspected criminal identified as Mr Jacob, who was found in possession of one fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition. The suspect is currently in military custody for further investigation.
In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 intercepted three suspected terrorist logistics couriers travelling on a motorcycle in Faskari Local Government Area on 24 September 2026. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects were conveying ₦2.7 million, suspected to be ransom money, alongside three mobile phones, for onward transfer to a terrorist kingpin through intermediaries within the area. The suspects and recovered items are in military custody for further investigation.
Similarly, on 25 September 2026, troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists in Faskari Local Government Area, established an ambush position and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee in disarray. Exploitation of the area subsequently led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle.
“In a related development on the same day, troops conducting a routine patrol intercepted and rescued 14 kidnapped victims comprising 12 males and two females. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims had earlier been abducted from Anguwan Miko and Tafoki villages in Faskari Local Government Area.”
The victims were reportedly abandoned by the terrorists upon sighting the advancing troops. They were subsequently rescued and handed over to the Faskari Local Government authorities for further necessary action.
The latest successes underscore the effectiveness of intelligence-driven, proactive and coordinated operations by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in disrupting terrorist activities, denying criminal elements freedom of action, recovering weapons and rescuing persons held in captivity across the Joint Operations Area.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, courage, professionalism and prompt response during the operations. It urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
