Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim has urged the International community to take urgent action against escalating geopolitical tensions, arms proliferation and emerging global security threats.
Ibrahim called on the UN to respond decisively to growing global instability and major power rivalry.
He stated this during a visit by participants of the United States Army War College to Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.
Ibrahim warned about the dangers posed by artificial intelligence, cyber warfare, autonomous weapons, drones and illicit arms transfers, stressing the need for stronger military and international responses to rapidly evolving technologies.
According to Ibrahim, the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s military through increased funding, improved welfare and stronger global partnerships.
He described the visit as ‘a reflection of the long-standing strategic relationship between Nigeria and the United States in promoting international peace and security.’
The envoy praised the War College for producing strategic military leaders and highlighted the achievements of Nigerian officers trained at the institution, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Chief of Army Staff Taoreed Lagbaja, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu and Col. Charles Nengite.

Ibrahim noted that Nengite made history by emerging as the institution’s top international graduate after breaking a 38-year record, describing the achievements of Nigerian officers as proof of the professionalism and resilience of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He also commended the participation of Col. Timothy Ajato in the delegation and said; “Nigeria was intensifying diplomatic engagement at the UN in line with Tinubu’s vision of promoting peace, innovation, investment and global cooperation.”
The Ambassador added that Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities include development, democracy, diaspora engagement and demographic growth, while expressing optimism about the nation’s economy based on recent global economic assessments.
The Delegation leader Prof. John Hagl said it was an honour to engage with the Nigerian mission.
He praised Nigeria’s contributions to the UN, describing Nigerian representatives as proud, knowledgeable and respected leaders.
