The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has mourned military personnel and others killed in a Nigerian Air Force plane crash in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, conveyed the governors’ condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the victims, as well as the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

In a statement issued on behalf of the 36 state governors and the people of Nigeria, AbdulRazaq described the crash as “a deeply painful moment” for the country.

He said members of the Armed Forces routinely make significant sacrifices in challenging circumstances to protect the nation and its people.

“The men and women of our Armed Forces make extraordinary sacrifices, often under the most challenging circumstances, to serve our country and protect our people,” he said.

AbdulRazaq said the deaths represented a profound loss not only to the victims’ families and colleagues but also to Nigeria, which they served with courage, commitment and honour.

He acknowledged the pain of families who lost fathers, husbands, sons, brothers and other loved ones, noting that no words could adequately ease the burden of such a loss.

He added that the governors stood with the affected families in their grief and prayed that they would find strength and comfort in the memories of their loved ones and their service to Nigeria.

THe NGF Chairman assured that the service and sacrifice of the fallen personnel would not be forgotten, adding that their memory would remain part of Nigeria’s history.

Commendation for Responders

The governors also commended the Nigerian Air Force, the Federal and Ondo State governments, security agencies, emergency responders and residents of Igbokoda for their efforts in responding to the crash and supporting search and recovery operations.

AbdulRazaq said the sacrifice of the fallen personnel should continue to inspire the pursuit of “a safer, stronger and more united Nigeria.”
