The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed concern over comments attributed to the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, during a recent political gathering, saying the remarks could contribute to political tension in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the party considered it necessary to respond to the governor’s reported comments and address issues relating to governance and political developments in Ebonyi State.
Mohammed said the party believes the governor should focus on addressing the needs of the people and highlighting the achievements of his administration ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
He also raised questions about some projects and programmes undertaken by the state government, including the renovation of the Ebonyi Airport, implementation of the overseas scholarship programme, road projects in local government areas and other development initiatives.
The PDP spokesperson further rejected attempts to link the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, to the political situation in Ebonyi State, maintaining that the issues under discussion relate primarily to governance and the welfare of the people.
Mohammed stated that the party’s governorship candidate, Ambassador (Dr.) Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, remains focused on presenting his vision to the people of Ebonyi State ahead of the next election.
The PDP also called on security agencies and civil society organisations to monitor political activities in the state and encourage all stakeholders to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes peace and democratic participation.
According to him, political competition should be guided by respect for democratic principles and the rule of law.
The party urged residents of Ebonyi State to remain peaceful and actively participate in the democratic process, expressing confidence that the electorate would make informed choices during the 2027 governorship election.
