The Kano state Police Command has deployed 250 newly trained officers to border Local Government Areas of the state.
This is part of efforts to strengthen security, increase police presence and improve rapid response to emergencies.
The officers were deployed after successfully completing a one-month intensive combat and weapon-handling training organised by the Command.
The training was conducted simultaneously at the No. 9 PMF, Hotoro, and No. 52 PMF, Challawa, in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s emphasis on capacity building, professionalism and operational readiness.
Addressing the ceremony, the Commanding Officer of No. 9 PMF, Hotoro, ACP Afeez Oyekan, said the officers underwent rigorous training in modern weapon handling, marksmanship, combat tactics and tactical manoeuvres.

He stated that the training was designed to enhance the officers’ professionalism, operational effectiveness and readiness to respond to security challenges.
The Commanding Officer of No. 52 PMF, Challawa, also commended the trainees for their discipline, endurance and commitment throughout the exercise.
Speaking to the graduating officers, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the training went beyond combat drills and weapon handling.
According to him, the officers also received training on human rights, use of force and firearms, public relations, intelligence-led policing, IED recognition and response, as well as community-based policing.
CP Bakori said the deployment of the officers to border communities was a strategic measure to strengthen security and improve the Command’s response to distress calls.
He charged the officers to remain vigilant, disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties, while ensuring that their operations remained within the bounds of the law.
“You are therefore our first line of defence, and I charge you to justify the confidence reposed in you,” the Commissioner said.
He urged the officers to be firm but fair and to respect the fundamental rights and dignity of law-abiding citizens, stressing that the use of firearms must always be guided by the rule of law.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the Command would sustain regular in-house refresher training programmes to continuously improve the skills and operational capacity of its personnel.
A press statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Kiyawa said, the Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and working with communities to maintain peace and security across the state.
