Police Warns Against Forceful Takeover of Osun LG Facilities

By Ibrahim Mustapha and Adebimpe Samson

The Osun State Police Command has warned individuals and groups against any attempt to forcefully take over the affairs or premises of Local Government Areas in the state while the matter remains before the courts.

The warning was issued by the Commissioner of Police (Election), CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, who congratulated the people of Osun State on the peaceful conclusion of the recent governorship election and commended stakeholders for their participation in the democratic process.

CP Erale said; “it had received reports of plans by some individuals or groups to forcibly take control of Local Government facilities despite ongoing judicial proceedings.”

He stressed that “no individual, political group or association has the right to resort to self-help or use force to assume control of any Local Government office or public institution.”

The police urged all parties to exercise restraint and allow the courts to determine the matter in accordance with the law.

It warned that any attempt to forcibly occupy or disrupt Local Government facilities would be treated as a serious breach of the peace, with offenders liable to arrest and prosecution.

The Command also appealed to parents, community and traditional leaders, political leaders, youth leaders and other stakeholders to caution their supporters against actions capable of threatening peace and security across the state.

CP Erale called on residents to remain calm, respect the rule of law and allow the judicial process to run its course.

He assured residents that the police would continue to protect lives and property while maintaining peace and public order throughout Osun State.
