The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has commended Team Nigeria’s performance at the ongoing 17th Africa Aquatics Championships in Oran, Algeria.
The federation gave the commendation in a statement by its Head of Media and Communications, Arinzechi Chukwunonso. He said the team had recorded podium finishes and qualified for key finals at the championships.
Team Nigeria opened its medal account on the first day, with Collins Ebinga winning a bronze medal in the men’s 100m butterfly in a Personal Best time of 50.68 seconds. India Kate Brown also secured a bronze medal to boost Nigeria’s early medal tally.
According to him, the team maintained a strong presence on Day 2, with Ebinga qualifying for the final of the 50m butterfly, while Dorcas Oka advanced to the final of the 100m breaststroke.
He said that Ebinga eventually finished fourth in the 50m butterfly final, narrowly missing the podium, while Oka also placed outside the medal positions in the 100m breaststroke final.
“In spite of this, their qualification for the finals reflects Nigeria’s growing competitiveness at the continental level,” he said.
“These performances demonstrate progress, with podium finishes, personal bests and multiple final appearances indicating a positive trajectory for Nigerian aquatics.”
“Team Nigeria remains focused as the championships continue, with more events ahead and medal prospects in view. The federation reaffirms its commitment to supporting athletes and promoting aquatic sports in Nigeria and across Africa.”Â
