Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along a major access route in Zamfara State.
The troops responded to credible intelligence on 27 August and discovered the explosive device along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, reinforcing ongoing efforts to secure movement corridors across the North-West.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, JTF North-West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops located the device and immediately secured the area to protect civilians and other road users, before an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team safely disposed of the threat.

The intervention prevented the explosive from becoming an active weapon against civilians and security personnel using the route, while enabling troops to maintain control of an important access corridor within the Joint Operations Area.
Following the disposal operation, troops intensified patrols around the area to prevent terrorist elements from exploiting the route or attempting to plant further explosive devices.
The incident highlights the continuing adaptation of terrorist tactics in the North-West, where improvised explosive devices can be used to threaten mobility, intimidate communities and disrupt access along key roads.
The response also underscores the value of timely community intelligence in countering such threats before they translate into casualties or wider disruption.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious objects or activities to security agencies, stressing that early information remains essential to threat detection and public protection.
The operation forms part of sustained efforts by the Joint Task Force to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, secure critical routes and protect communities across the North-West.
