The newly elected Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, southeast Nigeria, Chris Nwosu has resigned.
His resignation comes barely one month after assuming office, citing the departure of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi from the party.
Nwosu was elected during the party’s state congress held on April 11, and y5y2026, at the Kyrie Events Centre in Awka.
In a resignation letter dated May 2 and addressed to the Chairman of ADC’s Ozubulu Ward V in Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Nwosu said his decision was driven by Obi’s exit from the party and his desire to continue supporting the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s political vision.

“I write to formally resign my membership of the African Democratic Congress, effective immediately,” the letter stated.
It said; “For the avoidance of doubt, my resignation is informed by the unavoidable exit of HE, Mr. Peter Obi, CON from the party, as well as my burning desire to support his genuine aspiration to effectively contribute his quota to the birthing of a New and Working Nigeria.”

The letter was obtained in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Nwosu also thanked the party for the opportunity to serve, noting that he had only recently emerged as the party’s state chairman before stepping down.
The ADC’s Anambra State congress, where the new executives were elected by consensus and sworn in immediately, had been seen as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of future political contests in Nigeria.
