The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has called for increased awareness and support for men’s mental health, urging the creation of an environment where men can seek help without fear of stigma.
In a statement issued in Awka to mark Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr Soludo said many men continue to endure emotional and psychological challenges in silence due to societal expectations that discourage them from expressing vulnerability.
She stressed that promoting open conversations about mental health would contribute to healthier families and communities, noting that mental well-being is as important as physical health.

According to her, men should be encouraged to seek support when confronted with emotional or mental health challenges rather than suffer in silence.
Dr Soludo also urged families, employers, religious organisations and community leaders to establish support systems that enable men to discuss their struggles and access professional help when necessary.
She said breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues among men would help address growing concerns related to stress, depression and other emotional challenges.
The Governor’s wife reaffirmed the need for collective action to promote mental wellness and encouraged men to prioritise self-care, rest and meaningful social connections.
“To every man striving, fighting, providing, leading and navigating life’s challenges, your well-being matters. Take time to care for your mind just as you care for your body,” she urged.
