The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has met with Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to Rwanda, Ambassador Ibrahim Zanna, in Kigali.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination between Nigeria’s diplomatic mission and the Nigerian Army to advance bilateral defence relations and regional security cooperation.

The courtesy visit took place during Lieutenant General Shaibu’s official working visit to Rwanda, undertaken at the invitation of the Army Chief of Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force, Major General Vincent Nyakarundi.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, stating that “the engagement highlighted the importance of diplomatic support in advancing Nigeria’s defence relations and strengthening military cooperation with African partners.”

The meeting provided an opportunity to reinforce coordination in support of bilateral defence engagements, professional military exchanges and shared security priorities.

Strong diplomatic-military cooperation remains important to sustaining strategic partnerships, facilitating institutional collaboration and aligning defence engagements with Nigeria’s foreign policy and national security objectives.

The engagement also underscored the value of whole-of-government coordination in advancing Nigeria’s interests abroad and supporting regional security initiatives.

Closer cooperation between diplomatic and military institutions is expected to help consolidate existing partnerships, expand defence collaboration and contribute to peace, stability and security across Africa.
