The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has launched a special patrol operation for the 2026 Eid Al-Adha celebrations, deploying more than 210 personnel to enhance road safety, manage traffic flow, and respond to emergencies across the state.
The operation, which commenced on May 25 and will run through May 31, is part of the Corps’ annual festive season intervention aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries during periods of increased travel activity.
According to the Sector Public Education Officer, SRC Margaret B. Onabe, the exercise will combine public sensitisation, traffic enforcement, and rapid emergency response to ensure safer highways throughout the festive period.
The FRSC stated that the operation is designed to ease congestion, remove obstructions on major routes, enforce compliance with traffic regulations, and enhance response times to road incidents.

To support the exercise, the Command has deployed patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, radar guns, breathalysers, and other logistics assets.
Special attention will be given to high-traffic corridors, including the Bridge Head area in Onitsha and other strategic routes across the state.
Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhanuo, said enforcement efforts will focus on major traffic violations linked to road crashes, including speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane discipline violations, the use of mobile phones while driving, vehicle defects, expired tyres, and passenger manifest breaches.
She added that mobile courts will be deployed to expedite the prosecution of offenders, while emergency response teams have been placed on high alert to ensure swift intervention in the event of accidents.
The FRSC also confirmed coordination with the Nigeria Police Force, the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency, and the Ocha Brigade to strengthen traffic control, security, and emergency response during the holiday period.
Motorists and passengers were urged to comply with traffic regulations and avoid risky driving behaviours, with the Corps emphasising collective responsibility for road safety.
The FRSC extended Eid Al-Adha greetings to Muslim faithful and reiterated its commitment to safer road travel across Anambra State during the festive season.
