The Katsina State Government has enrolled 500 persons with disabilities (PWDs) into the Katsina State Contributory Healthcare Scheme, providing them with free healthcare cards to enhance access to quality and affordable medical services as part of its inclusive social protection programme.

The beneficiaries were drawn from the state’s 34 Local Government Areas, under the Katsina State Contributory Healthcare Scheme.

The cards were presented on behalf of Governor Dikko Radda by the Senior Special Assistant on Disabled Matters, Lt. Hudu Usman (Rtd), to the three zonal coordinators of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Katsina State Chapter, for onward distribution to the beneficiaries.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Lt. Hudu Usman said the initiative reflects Governor Radda’s commitment to ensuring that vulnerable groups, particularly persons with disabilities, have access to quality and affordable healthcare services.

He described the intervention as another demonstration of the administration’s inclusive governance agenda, aimed at improving citizens’ welfare regardless of their physical condition.

The Governor’s aide also commended the management of the Katsina State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KATCHMA) for its commitment and efficiency in enrolling beneficiaries into the healthcare scheme.

Representatives of persons with disabilities, including traditional leaders within the disability community, government officials and chairmen of various disability clusters, commended the state government for the initiative, describing it as a significant step towards promoting inclusion and expanding access to essential healthcare services.

Some of the beneficiaries, Malam Nasiru Dauda and Malam Yusuf Haruna Haruna, expressed appreciation to Governor Radda, saying the healthcare cards would make it easier for them to access medical services.

The enrolment forms part of the Katsina State Government’s broader efforts to strengthen social protection programmes and ensure that persons with disabilities are fully integrated into the delivery of public services, particularly healthcare.
