By Omolola Fadile, Jos

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has elected state executives in Plateau, with Solomon Ndam emerging as Chairman during a well-attended Congress in Jos, the state capital.

The congress drew delegates, stakeholders, and party supporters from across the state, marking what observers described as a major step in strengthening the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general election.

Declaring the congress open, party chieftain, Jonathan Sunday Akuns, emphasised the NDC’s commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development.

“Our party is built on the principles of peace, inclusivity, and people-centered governance. We recognise the diversity of our communities, and our policies will reflect tailored solutions that address their unique needs,” Akuns said.

The election process, which party officials described as transparent and orderly, culminated in the emergence of Solomon Ndam as State Chairman.

In his acceptance speech, Ndam pledged to prioritise grassroots mobilisation and unity within the party.

“This mandate is a call to service,” Ndam said. “We will focus on building a strong foundation at the community level because that is where true political strength lies. Together, we will address unemployment, insecurity, and social divisions affecting our state.”

He also expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the next general elections.

“With the growing support we are witnessing, I am confident that the NDC will achieve significant electoral success in 2027,” he affirmed.

Ndam stated that the congress coincided with a surge in membership, disclosing that over 250,000 new members had registered within a short period.

“This increase in membership is a clear indication that people believe in our vision. It shows that Plateau citizens are ready for a credible alternative,” Ndam stated.

Other stakeholders at the event called for unity and cooperation among party members.

Political figure Alhaji Y.M. Shafiu urged the new executives to embrace inclusiveness.

Mr. Pius Gyang Chomo of the Obedient Movement highlighted the importance of collaboration among emerging political forces, referencing the influence of Peter Obi.

“The involvement of leaders like Peter Obi has energized supporters across the country. It signals a broader alignment that could reshape the political landscape,” Chomo said.

The congress concluded on an optimistic note, with the newly elected executives pledging to deepen grassroots engagement, expand membership, and roll out community-based initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of the people.
